Description
A beautiful decorative English antique 19th Century Victorian solid sterling silver sovereign case holder by the silversmiths Deakin & Francis Ltdin overall good condition and with a full set of English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1896. Lovely quality genuine 125 year old silver example.
The tiny silver mounted button cover is missing (see last photo)
But the sprung steel post is still intact and works well.
with a hinged silver lid with sprung push button lid opener and is all-over decorated with attractive foliate scroll engraving.
Inside it has a sprung silver coin plate and is capable of holding around 3 or 4 coins. Complete with its original large silver bale ring and is decorated in the cartouche with a nice period engraved entwined monogram. Weighs approx 22 grams.
Measurements Measures approx. 1.95 inches (47mm) x 1.25 inches (30mm) and is 0.6 inches (15mm) deep.
Date English antique Victorian solid sterling silver with a full set of English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1896, (date letter "w"). Lovely clear struck silver marks in 3 separate places.
Maker Silversmiths initials "D & F", (Deakin & Francis Ltd).
Condition Good condition with no splits or repairs, definitely no wear holes and no nasty knocks or dents, a very nice example. The silver lid hinge works perfectly and the lid opens and closes tightly and securely. The sprung push button lid opener still works fine, the tiny silver mounted button cover is missing (see last photo), but the sprung steel post is still intact and works well. Beautifully all-over decorated and complete with its original hinged attachment ring. A nice genuine Victorian silver sovereign case.
